US Marshals Collect Almost $8 Million from Crundwell Auctions

Just under $8 million has been collected from selling Rita Crundwell’s assets according to U.S. Marshals. Even more staggering is the more than $53 million Crundwell owes the city of Dixon. She pleaded guilty to wire fraud in November.
Whatever funds are recouped from the auctions will be deducted from her debt owed. Feds say they still have five real estate properties to sell and Crundwell’s jewelry.

The net proceeds from all sales is held in escrow pending further proceedings regarding restitution.

Crundwell was a leading breeder of quarter horses in the United States and the former comptroller for the city of Dixon, Illinois. She pleaded guilty to that federal charge last month, but is also facing 60 counts of theft in Lee County.

Crundwell remains free on bond until her federal sentencing, which is scheduled for February 14, 2013.
