A HITS Saugerties employee authorities describe as an “undocumented alien” from Mexico is facing a felony assault charge.
Police arrested Hugo Cuaya, aka Hugo Eleazar Cuayacoatl, 38, Wednesday after he allegedly attacked another HITS employee.
The victim suffered a laceration to his arm and contusions to his head and face after being punched and cut with a sharp object, police said. Paramedics treated the 37-year-old male at the scene before transporting him to the hospital.
Cuaya fled the scene before authorities arrived. The Saugerties K-9 unit assisted in finding Cuaya. They found him in a room at the Wenton Motel. Police arrested Cuaya without incident.
Police took Cauya to the Ulster County Jail on $7,500 cash bail after he was arraigned in Saugerties Town Court.
Cauya returns to court on May 30.
