Second Defendant Enters Not Guilty Plea in Emily Champion, Family Murder

A second defendant entered a not guilty plea to three counts of complicity to commit murder in a Kentucky court Friday. The charges stem from Ann Plotkin’s (right) alleged connection to the murder of equine veterinarian Emily Champion and her parents.
Plotkin was arrested last week after being indicted by a Trigg County Grand Jury last week. She is the alleged love interest of Ryan Champion. He is charged with three complicity to commit murder charges, one count of complicity to capital kidnapping, and capital murder. Authorities say he killed his co-conspirator, Vito Riservato.
Champion’s lawyer withdrew from his case and he is now being represented by a public defender. He remains behind bars on $5 million bond.
Plotkin is also represented by a public defender and is being held on $3 million bond. Both defendants are scheduled to appear on March 20th. The state is seeking the death penalty for both defendants.
Emily Champion was a veterinarian at Baronne Veterinary Clinic in Sunset, Louisiana. A horse lover, she graduated from Auburn University’s College of Veterinary Medicine in 2008.
