Horse Dies in Fire at Crowley’s Sales Barn in MA

Barn Fire

One horse is dead after an intense fire at Crowley’s Sales Barn and Stables in Massachusetts. Several other horses were saved.

Agawam Fire Lt. James Deming says 8 to 12 horses were in the barn when the fire started. Property damage is estimated at $100,000. There are no reports of injuries.

The fire was reported around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday. Fire crews fought the blaze until early morning.

Crowley’s Sales Barn and Stables operate horse sales auctions. It is estimated the farm has at least 60 horses on the property. All of their hay and feed was lost in the blaze.

Dennis Crowley started the business in 1960 and still operates it with his wife, Alice Crowley. It was his wife’s horse named Lois that was lost in the fire, according to a social media post on their page.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
