Equine veterinarians will soon have a new formulation of Equioxx in their arsenal to help relieve osteoarthritis in their horse patients.
The once-daily, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory (NSAID) treatment for joint pain caused by equine osteoarthritis, Equioxx is now FDA approved as a tablet. It is expected to come to market in the fall.
The addition of Equioxx (firocoxib) Tablets means there are three available delivery methods, depending on a horse’s needs.
Merial said in a statement that an injection is the best way to initiate therapy, while the paste is convenient for accurate dosing. Equioxx Tablets can be given with or without feed.
Equioxx Tablets will be available by prescription only.
