EHV-1 Strikes in Manitoba

The Manitoba Horse Racing Commission has confirmed a case of neurological equine herpesvirus (EHV-1) at Assiniboia Downs. A quarantine is currently in effect.
After the infected horse started showing clinical signs it was isolated and eventually euthanized due to the severity of its symptoms. No other horses have shown signs of the virus, according to officials.
Horse trainers who have been on the grounds of the Winnipeg, Manitoba, track since April 15 must contact the Ontario Racing Commission vet at Woodbine or Fort Erie if they are considering shipping to either track.
EHV-1 is not a reportable disease in Manitoba. The quarantine is a voluntary measure enacted by the track.
