Georgia dressage trainer Kenn Acebal has been behind bars for the last five months after his bond was revoked. He was initially arrested in a child sex sting operation led by the FBI Safe Child Task Force in April 2011.
FBI officials say he attempted to meet with what he thought was a child for sex. Acebal came to the attention of law enforcement over the Internet when he began a series of “chats” with undercover officers regarding his desire to have sex with a minor. Court documents state Acebal described his “desire to engage in anal-genital contact with someone the accused believed to be a nine year old male child, named Tim, arrange[d] a meeting with Ken and Tim, and arrive[d] at said meeting location.”
He chatted with two additional undercover agents who he thought to be young boys according to the indictment – ages 11 and 14 – allegedly in the same sexually explicit manner.
Two months after being released on bond Acebal was picked up by authorities for allegedly driving naked. The police report states Acebal admitted to performing a “sex act” on himself while driving. Porn magazines and a pipe with methamphetamine residue were also found in his vehicle. The arrest landed him in rehab.
In November, his bond was revoked and he was booked into the Catoosa County Jail where he remains today. A bench trial scheduled for February in the child sex sting case was cancelled. According to the clerk’s office Acebal recently obtained new counsel. A plea hearing in the case is currently scheduled for next week according to the prosecutor’s office. He is charged with three counts of criminal attempt to commit aggravated child molestation, three counts of criminal attempt to commit child molestation, and three counts of child computer pornography.
In the second case he is charged with possession of a schedule II controlled substance, possession and use of drug related objects, and public indecency. His trial is scheduled for June 11, 2012.
