Calvin Euthanized after Cross-Country Fall

The eventing community is mourning the loss of another mount after a tragic fall at the Aspen Farm Horse Trials in Washington.
The 17-year-old gelding named Calvin was competing with his owner and rider Holly Severijn, of Woodinville, on Sunday.
The pair was competing in the Training Rider division and were on cross-country when Calvin fell at Fence 12, a log jump out of the water. He got to his feet, according to a press release from the United States Eventing Association, but the gelding reportedly injured his shoulder. Euthanasia was recommended by the veterinary team.
Calvin was a Thoroughbred by Pioneering and out of Te Awa.
