California Police: Accused Saddle Thief Arrested, Charged

A public tip helped lead to the arrest of a man accused of stealing more than $180,000 in hunter/jumper saddles.
California authorities say they arrested Gregory Dale Andersen of Malibu on November 10th. The 49-year-old was allegedly using the alias Matthew Gregory. He is charged with identity theft and possession of stolen property.

Andersen is out on $500,000 bail.

Moorpark Police released photos of a suspect earlier this month and asked the public for help identifying the man by name, saying he was connected to saddle thefts.

Authorities began investigating after a February 2014 burglary at Whitethorn Ranch in Somis. Sixteen saddles worth a total value of more than $53,000 were nabbed.
Two of the stolen saddles were eventually recovered, according to officials. The investigation revealed Andersen, using his alias, allegedly shipped them from a post office.
Authorities say they believe Andersen used the name Matthew Gregory to sell over $180,000 in saddles from 2007-2014. Andersen allegedly used the eBay seller IDs moonjumper, classicalequestrian, 4grandprix, hunterhampton, westchestercounty, qualityusedtack, and jumpermaster.
