An arrest warrant has been issued for an Olympic bronze medal event rider after he was a no-show in court.
Equestrian Darren Chiacchia was scheduled to appear before Circuit Judge Hale Stancil on Tuesday, June 3, for a pre-trial conference, but Chiacchia failed to appear. Judge Stancil ordered Chiacchia’s appearance on Thursday, June 5, but he failed to show up a second time. The warrant was issued early Friday morning by Marion County officials.
Chiacchia is charged with felony unlawful acts prior to sex for allegedly not telling his former male partner he was HIV positive. In 2011, the defendant’s motion to dismiss the case was granted by Judge Stancil.
Jury selection is currently slated to begin on July 28.
The warrant remains active Friday afternoon, according to the warrants division, and Chiacchia will forfeit any bond posted related to his case.
