Horse Hauling Accident
A single-vehicle accident involving an alleged horse-slaughter hauler leaves 19 of 37 horses dead.
Harry Swift of Bastrop, LA was traveling west on US 82 Tuesday night near Greenville, MS. Corporal Tony Dunn
with the Mississippi Highway Patrol states it was after 10:30 pm when Swift’s 2007 Peterbilt went off the road. The makeshift horse hauler overturned on its side.
Horses’ bodies littered the highway ditch Wednesday morning along with debris from the accident.
Louisiana resident Terrie Dukes drove to the location. She confirms the horses had been dead awhile. “It was awful looking – it was like a scene out of a horror movie.”
Corporal Dunn was unable to confirm information about the horses, the driver or driver’s destination. He says the investigation is on-going.
The accident did not injure Swift. Although we tried to reach him by phone we unable to find a working number.
